Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is the exchange of business information from one computer to another using standardized data formats. It eliminates the need for paper forms through the mail or fax machine and can be integrated with any operating system. EDI is generally independent of a company's computer systems and EDI can take place between companies with completely different hardware and software. EDI has proven to speed up business processes and improve data accuracy. Most importantly, EDI reduces the cost of doing business.
